Yadgir: The Information Department has organized the Seven-day Siddi Damami and Pugadi dance performances in the district undar the tribal programme.

Rangampet Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Suresh Sajjan Inaugurating Tribal Artists Cultural programme at Rangampet in Surpur taluk on Tuesday evening.

He opined that the folk art forms have been vanishing due to lack of encouragement to the artists. The folk was the base for all art forms and the folk forms should be promoted, the said.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat member Nagappa Thevedi, Manikappa Boda, Information Department Deputy Director G.Chandrakanth and others were present on the occasion.

Girish Siddi and troupe from Devarakallahalli in Yallapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district performed the Damami and Pugadi dances of the tribal community.

PU exam: 2 debarred

Yadgir: Two students were debarred for malpractice during the second year Pre-University examinations, which began in the district on Wednesday.

Examinations were held in Sociology subject on the fourth day. One candidate of government PU College Shahapur and one candidate of government PU College Bhimarayangudi centers were among the debarred, informed PU education Deputy Director B.R.Shivakumar in a press release.

10,625 students to appear for SSLC exam

Yadgir: Deputy Commissioner Gurneet Tej Menon directed the officials of Public Instruction Department to take proper measures to ensure that SSLC examination will he held smoothly at the 37 examination centers across the district scheduled to begin from April 2.

Presiding over the SSLC examination preparatory meeting held in the meeting hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city on Wednesday, she said, as many as 10,625 students will appear for the SSLC examination in the district. The seating arrangements and drinking water should be made available for each student without fail.

Of the 37 examination centers, 11 have been considered as sensitive centers. Police security has been beefed up at the sensitive examination centers.

Besides, prohibitory orders have been issued around the examination centers at the distance of 200-meter region. Internet center and photocopy centers should be closed down during the examination day. Student shouldn’t carry mobile, calculator etc inside the examination hall, she added.

Furnishing details about the examination centers in the district, Of the 37 examination centers, 15 are in Yadgir Taluk, 11 in Shahapur Taluk and 11 in Surpur Taluk.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction Department Basanna Mahanthgouda and All taluk Block Education Officers were present in the meet.

22 Child labourers rescued in Shahapur

Yadgir: Child labour eradication officials conducted lightning raids on the hotels, grocery shops and wine shops at Shahapur town and rescued 22 child labourers found working in the shops.

Shahapur Tasildar M.Rachappa, Block Education officer Rayappareddy, Labour office Ravindra and CDPO Muniraju led team issued notices to the shop owners who employed the child labourers. The officials registered a case against the shop owner under the Child Labout Act.

Meanwhile, the parents who also arrived at the raid spot appealed to the officials to release their children. They said that they fail even to earn daily bread when all the members of the family work everyday.

The government too had not provided any facility so far. Therefore the children should be let free, they urged. However, the officials went ahead as per the rule, the villagers said.

One Killed, 4 injured in accident

The deceased has been identified as Hanumathraya (25) resident of Hunasigi village. The injured 4 persons are being admitted to a government hospital in Hunasigi.

Hunasigi Police have registered a case in this regard.

Yadgir: Zilla Panchayat Health and Education standing committee, Chairman Hanumegouda Markal, on Tuesday said that universalisation of education of the only powerful tool, which can eradicate child labour.

Speaking after inaugurating a Child labour residential School at Kanapur village in Shahapur taluk on Tuesday, Markal said nobody had the right to deprive children of their fundamental rights.

He said economic deprivation should not be the reason for denial of children’s rights. Reasons such as family poverty do not give parents the right to send children to work. No parent has the right to use his/her children for earning a livelihood when they should be studying in school like others, he said.

Hanumegouda Markal said it was also important that the Government provide a proper environment for children to discover their potential. Government agencies should ensure that every child is enrolled in school.

“Educational empowerment of children will end child labour. I am totally opposed to the employment of children in any work, whether hazardous or otherwise”, he said.

Quoting Swami vivekananda’s celebrated statement that every soul was divine, the Markal said every child had the potential for excellence and should be given the opportunity to achieve it.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat Election on April 29

Yadgir: The election for the post of Yadgir Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat President will be held on April 29, at the Tahsildar’s offices of three taluk centers between 8 am and 4 pm. 

Speaking to Kakalwar News here on Monday, Election officer for the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, JavareGouda informed that as per final list of the voters which was released on March 14.

Yadgir Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat has 1,247 members from three taluks namely Yadgir, Shahapur and Surpur. Only those who are the members of the parishat for the last three years are eligible to vote during the election.

Giving details about the eligible voters in the district, JavareGouda said there were 1,247 voters in district (Yadgir – 596, Shahapur – 387 and Surpur 254).

Calendar of events
The nominations will be accepted from the election candidates at Yadgir taluk Tahsildar’s office from March 21 to 28, between 11 am and 5 pm. The candidates contending for the post of the State Kannada Sahitya Parishat President should have been the members of the Parishat for the last 10 Years.

While those contesting for the President’s post of the district or border area Kannada Sahitya Parishat should have been the member of the Parishat for the last five years, informed the Election officer.

The nominations will be scrutinized on March 31 at the Yadgir taluk office and the last date for withdrawing the nomination is April 5. Elections will be held on April 29, and counting will be done on the same day evening.

Identity cards
The Parishat has also made arrangements to issue ovter identity cards to all the voters.  Elaborate arrangements have been made to collect information about the voters through village accountants.

If the Village Accountants fail to locate the voters in their residence, then such voters Identity cards will be kept in the tahsildar’s office, which may be collected by the voters.

However, voter will be allowed to vote only if he possess the identity card. Soon after the elections, the Parishat has made arrangements to issue permanent identity cards.

Do not cheat
Traders should not cheat consumers to make quick money. Instead they should earn the confidence of their customers by giving less stress on making huge profits.

The consumers too should never buy things in black market. They should be sure of what they are buying, he said.  

Be aware
Deputy Commissioner Gurneet Tej Menon said that when people get cheated, they should be aware of consumer rights.

Every consumer should develop the habit of verifying the authenticity of the claims of advertisements, which are shown in media everyday.

Instead of symbolically observing World Consumers Day by the government, if each consumer observes the day, the Day will become more meaningful, she said.

Zilla Panchayat’s administrative deputy secretary B.V.Bhosle said that the consumer cases should be solved within 150 days and released a handbook on consumer’s rights published by Food and Civil Supplies Department.

Four injured in Kerosene stove blast

Yadgir: Four people, including a 12-year-old girl suffered major burns on Sunday afternoon. When a Kerosene Stove burst at their residence at Muslimpura area in Yadgir.

According to the police, an outdated Kerosene Stove leakage and stove caused the blast. The injured Md. Aizaz (40), Rizwana Begam (35) Apser (38) and Ahmadi (13) are being treated at Raichur Apollo Hospital burns ward.

Consider village assistants as ‘D’ group workers

Yadgir: Members of Karnataka State Revenue Department’s Village Assistants Association stage a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office demanding the State government of consider them as ‘D’ group workers and provide basic salary of Rs. 4,800 per month, here on Saturaday.

Speaking on the occasion, the agitating members said as many as 10,450 persons have been working as village assistants in Revenue Department for the past 33 years in the State.

However, they are not given any facility so far as the government hasn’t considered them as D grade workers. Due to the series of protest, the government declared village assistant post as a regular post. But, it failed to revise the pay scale of the workers despite several appeals.

Now, we are paid only Rs. 3,500 per month. “We are finding it difficult to bear family expenses due to such a meager salary in the prevailing society. The retired workers are not given any facility except Rs. 3,500 per month, they said.

Considering the plight of the workers, the government should provide compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to each retired worker. Besides, the government should recruit family members of the deceased village assistants to the department on humanitarian basis.

District Unit of village Assistants Association Laxmiputra Sagar, its Secretary Shivappa Ibrimpur and others took part in the protest.

She was speaking at a legal awareness camp organized by Surpur Taluk Legal Service Authority, Surpur Bar Association, Arundhati Law College at Hasanapur in Surpur taluk on Sunday.
Instead of encouraging struggle, law must think encouraging people to lead a harmonious life. When it comes to right of ancestral property to women, if daughters get it with love and affection it is very good.

But, it would not be good to bring the family’s name to streets in the name of property rights, she said.

Surpur Bar Association President Arvind Kumar Kalburgikar said that the medical and law fields have lost the earlier glory. Today a sistuation has arisen where people work only for the sake of money, he regretted.

PU exam: One debarred

Yadgir: One Student were debarred for copying during the Second year Pre-University examinations on Saturday. Examinations were held in Political Science subject.

DDPU B.R.Shivakumar said, one candidate who were writing the Political science papar as external students were caught red-handed while copying at the New Kannada Pre-University College examination center in Yadgir, and were debarred from writing examinations.

There were no others such incidents from other parts of the district and examinations went on smoothly, he said.

Roopa D. Moudgil Said banks should instill confidence in the farming community, small-scale industrialists and merchants, by extending timely help. She hoped that the new brach of HDFC Bank would take the lead in the regard.

HDFC Bank Head Navin Puri said that with the inauguration of the new branch, the number of branches in Karnataka had gone up to 138. It had around 2,201 branches across India, he said, and added that the bank had been assisting people from all sections of society.

HDFC Circle Head Joshi Paul said that an ATM facility would be provided at the new branch in another fortnight.

Rehabilitation workers stage protest

Yadgir: Demanding fulfillment of their various demands, rehabilitation workers for rural physically challenged under the aegis of Karnataka Rajya Vikalachetanara hagu Vividodesha and district Association of Rural Rehabilitation Workers staged a protest in Yadgir on Friday.

The State government, with an objective to rehabilitate the physically challenged persons from rural areas under the Rehabilitation Scheme for the rural physically challenged had appointed workers in 2007-08.

Workers who had passed their graduation degrees were offered Rs. 1,800 and SSLC pass were offered Rs. 700 as honorarium. However, the Directorate of the Physically Challenged and Senior Citizens has failed to provide any guidance or training to the workers.

But the workers have been holding surveys, workshops and other such programmes for the physically challenged people regularly. They are also helping the disabled people to seek identity cards, said Association office bearers.

“The rehabilitation workers have worked for implementing various schemes. But they have no service security. An indefinite protest demanding this was held on November 22, 2010 in Bangalore. Then the principal secretary of the government had assured of fulfilling the demand. But the government did not keep its words”, they said.

Demands

They demanded that MRW and VRW provide minimum wages, service security, health insurance, and provident fund for the rehabilitation workers. They also demanded to extend the Scheme meant for the rural physically challenged to disabled people coming under Town Panchayat limits.

A Separate Corporation for the development of the physically challenged should be set up. Compensation should be given to the family of the workers if the worker meets with an accident. A reservation of 5 percent should be provided to the physically challenged persons in politics, they urged.

Maximum inflow of groundnut to marker

Yadgir: The Yadgir Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee yard has been witnessing a record inflow of groundnut this season and groundnut could be seen dumped in a wide area of the yard.

The farmers who had faced brunt in greengram and tur crops have got a relief with the good yield of groundnut this season.

The Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee has witnessed a record inflow of groundnut this week and on Tuesday alone a total of 29,000 quintal groundnut was purchased. This year the groundnut yield is also bumper and the price too.

Since past one week, the inflow of groundnut in the APMC has been increasing, Everyday thousands of quintals of groundnut is being brought for sale.

On Monday 21,984 quintal, on Tuesday 29,099 quintal, Wednesday 18,005 quintal, on Thursday 8,020 quintal, on Friday 12,060 quintal. However on Tuesday, the APMC witnessed a record inflow of 29,099 quintal. It was for the first time in the history of Yadgir APMC it witnessed such a massive inflow of groundnut in one day, the APMC officials in formed.

The groundnut purchase has been taken up since 45-46 Days. So far around Three-lakh quintal groundnut has been sold in the APMC. As farmers have been showing much enthusiasm to sell their groundnut yield when it has good price in the market, the inflow has increased, they said.

We have been getting from Rs. 4,500 to Rs. 5,200 per quintal groundnut. After losing tur and greengram crops, the groundnut has rescued us. The groundnut yield has also in creased this year, said a farmer Mahadevappa of Gurmitkal.

As heavy groundnut inflow is being seen in the APMC, the shortage of place to store such a huge quantity is troubling the farmers. The renovation work in the APMC yard has also been affecting the storage of groundnut. Even in the main entrance also farmers could be seen waiting for the readers to buy their groundnut.

ZP chief makes surprise visit to hospital

Yadgir: Zilla Panchayat president Basavarajeshwari Patil expressed displeasure over maintenance of the hospital on Thursday.

She made a surprise visit to the Shahapur Taluk Government hospital and went around different wards to take stock of the situation.

She pulled up the hospital authorities for poor sanitation in the hospital wards, particularly gynaecology, female surgery, orthopaedic, burns and other wards.

She asked Taluk Health Office and to maintain minimum sanitation in the hospital. Many patients complained about bad smell coming out from the garbage, which is not cleared days together.

Some of the patient’s even request to discharge them as conditions in the hospital was unbearable. She said the DHO should take up surprise checks once in a week to keep sanitation in and around the hospital.

She also said that he would speak with the District in-charge minister and Deputy Commissioner with regard to up gradation of the hospital.

NSS Camp inaugurated at Mudnoor

 Yadgir: A weel-long NSS special camp of Kambhavi Government First Grade College was inaugurated at the adopted village mudnoor near Kambhavi in Surpur taluk on Thursday.

After inaugurating the camp the Grama Panchayat chairman Somangouda bekinal said that the special camp had been organized because till now, no Government or social organization had come forward to help the villagers. And the village had been neglected without basic amenities he explained.

Chief guest S.Prabhuling Said NSS camps instill discipline, orderliness and improve awareness about the rural people among students. He also called upon villagers to cooperate for the success of the NSS camps.

Delivering the keynote address, NSS Camp office Chandrashakar Kokal said that the participants of the camp would be made environmentally aware. They would also undertake tasks to improve the cleanliness of the village, he added.

Principal Sidanna P.Bedagonda, Lecturer Ramesh Kola, Malanna Karibhavi were present. Chandrashakar welcomed the gathering and Yakanna Patil, NSS volunteer, proposed a vote of thanks. Several leaders and residents of the village were also present.

3,605 students appear for II PU exams

Yadgir: As the second year pre-university examination began on Thursday, about 3,605 students appeared for the exams across 11 centres in the district. The students answered History paper on the first day.

The examinations were conducted smoothly as the police department issued a ban orders within 200 mts radius of the examination centers. On the first day, there were no reports of any students being debarred.

The students will appear for Biology on March 16 between 9 am and 12 noon.
