Consider village assistants as ‘D’ group workers

Yadgir: Members of Karnataka State Revenue Department’s Village Assistants Association stage a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office demanding the State government of consider them as ‘D’ group workers and provide basic salary of Rs. 4,800 per month, here on Saturaday.

Speaking on the occasion, the agitating members said as many as 10,450 persons have been working as village assistants in Revenue Department for the past 33 years in the State.

However, they are not given any facility so far as the government hasn’t considered them as D grade workers. Due to the series of protest, the government declared village assistant post as a regular post. But, it failed to revise the pay scale of the workers despite several appeals.

Now, we are paid only Rs. 3,500 per month. “We are finding it difficult to bear family expenses due to such a meager salary in the prevailing society. The retired workers are not given any facility except Rs. 3,500 per month, they said.

Considering the plight of the workers, the government should provide compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to each retired worker. Besides, the government should recruit family members of the deceased village assistants to the department on humanitarian basis.

District Unit of village Assistants Association Laxmiputra Sagar, its Secretary Shivappa Ibrimpur and others took part in the protest.
